Desborough Golf Club. (1930 - 1957)

The club first appeared in about 1930.

By 1932 the club was progressing well. The clubhouse which was erected two years earlier had now been paid for and the game had become so popular that consideration would be given to enlarge the building. Lieutenant-Colonel Burditt was the secretary.

In June 1935 Mrs Leonard Kilborn won the Ladies' Championship at Desborough Golf Club with a score of 93. Miss Madeline Burditt was the former holder.

It was reported in April 1936 that golfers were protesting against the use of the nine-hole course after dark by motorists who chase rabbits by the beams of car headlights. The fairways had been cut up with zig-zag ruts inches deep. "The course is certainly infested with rabbits" said Mr A C Bloor, the club secretary, "but we take our own steps to deal with the trouble. It has taken us four years to establish our course, and tremendous harm has been done by this rabbit chasing."

In February 1939 Mr W Burton had a hole in one on the Desborough course.

In December 1939 the Desborough Golf Club was fined for a "Straying "Mascot." A placid old horse that wandered around the Desborough course, and was well known to many golfers, was mentioned at the Kettering Petty Sessions. The Golf Club in Pipewell Road, of which the secretary was Leslie Tebbutt, were fined 5/- for allowing the horse to stray on the highway in November. A witness said that the fence was in poor condition and there were several gaps where the horse could have got through.
