Killaloe Golf Club, County Clare. (1900 - WW1)

The club was founded in 1900.

From 1902 the secretary was Richard Newman, Bank House, Killaloe. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day, 2/6 a week and 5/- a month. The course at this time was open from October to 15th May. The Station at Killaloe was 1 mile away. Local hotels were the Lakeside, Grace’s, Lough Derg and Shannon View.

The following is from The Irish Times May 1900 “In addition to the attraction of fishing The Shannon Lake Steamers Company have laid out a nine-hole golf course on the shores of Lough Derg on which the visitors to this company’s  new Lakeside Hotel are allowed to play free”

From the 1905 Nisbet's Golf Yearbook; Instituted 1901; Station at Killaloe one mile; Hon. secretary - R Newman, Provincial Bank of Ireland, Killaloe; captain, A J Parker; nine-holes; entrance fee nil, and subs - 12s/6d, ladies 10s, and family £1; visitors, 1s a day, 2s/6d a week. This is an inland course on the border of Lough Derg. The hazards are chiefly stone walls. Hotel - Shannon View.

In 1914 the secretary was still R Newman. The professional was P Nash. A 9-hole inland course on the border of Lough Derg. Hazards were chiefly stone walls. The club had a membership of 78. The season was October to May. Entry fee was £1. The subs for gents were £1/2/6 and ladies 17/6. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day, 4/- a week and 10/- a month. The Station was a 5 minute walk from the course.
