Lairg Golf Club, Highland. (1893 - WW1)

The following is from "Golf" Friday 25 May 1894; Lairg; Nine-holes (good course).
Report on the re-opening of the course in July 1912.
John o' Groat Journal Friday 26 September 1913 - "Lairg Golf Club are in receipt of a very fine trophy at the hands of Mr Bertie Heilbron, Glasgow. It takes the firm of a silver rose-bowl mounted on an ebony stand, and is for competition amongst the ladies. It should prove a strong inducement to ladies to join the club. The club are highly indebted to Mr Heilbron for his generous gift."
In 1914 the secretary was Jas Ritchie M.A, Oak Cottage and the greenkeeper was John Ross. A 9-hole course at the back of the Sutherland Arms Hotel, with fine views of Loch Shin. There was no entry fee. Subs were 11/6d. Visitors’ fees were 1/- a day, 5/- a week. There were no restrictions for ladies and there was no Sunday play. The station was 1 ½ miles away.
From the Northern Chronicle Wednesday 17 June 1913 - "On Thursday an interesting competition concluded on the Lairg golf course. A pipe, presented by a friend of Mr Davidson's, for competition by members of the club, was keenly contested for. The course was in excellent order, the condition of the greens deserving special praise. The finalists were David Stephen and Alick Sutherland, the former of whom won on the last green."
