Magdalen Hill was the original course of the Royal Winchester Golf Club from 1888 to the early 1900s.

Hampshire Chronicle Saturday 17 August 1912 – “During the year Golf Links have been re-established on Magdalen Hill. It will be remembered that the first golf course in Winchester was on Magdalen Hill.”

Magdalen Hill was used as a training camp for troops at the time of WWI. The Great War put paid to any further golf on Magdalen Hill.
