The Lanes Golf Centre, Stoke Poges, Bucks. (1994 - 2016)

Thanks to Richard Anderson for his help in compiling the history of the club; “This was a 9 hole municipal course on the west side of Stoke Road just north of Slough. It was designed for South Bucks District Council as an easier option to their full length Farnham Park layout a mile and a half to the north. The facility included a covered driving range.

There were three par 3s and six par 4s: the architect had clearly intended the 1st as a par 5, but the hole was always played as a short par 4 from a position near the 4th green. Length from white tees was 4546 yards, Par 68, for twice around.

The course was rebranded as The South Buckinghamshire Academy in the early 2000s around the time Farnham Park became The South Buckinghamshire Golf Club.

The course closed in 2016 and was noted in the local parish council minutes 4 July 2016. Given the good provision for public play in the area it wasn't too controversial a decision to close.

I visited in April 2018 by which time the course had reverted to nature, with the exception of traveller caravans on part of the car park. Some golf nets and the range and reception buildings were still standing abandoned. I could make out the 4th green from the public path across the course, but the layout was lightly constructed and it was by no means obvious walking across that it had been a golf course.”
