Allestree Park Golf Course, Derby. (1948 – 2020)

When the original Derbyshire Golf Club lost their course in the early 1930s a new course was laid out in Allestree Park and this became the “new” Derbyshire Golf Club. The 18-hole Allestree course was designed by Harry Colt.

It became known as the Allestree Park Golf Course following WW2. Allestree Park Golf Club played over the course.

It was decided by the local council that the much loved course would close in December 2020.

The following statement was issued in January 1922; “In September 2019, Cabinet approved the sale of Allestree Hall and, as the sale of the Municipal Hall would affect the operation of Allestree Golf Course, it was subsequently decided in accordance with the report to close the golf course on 31 December 2020 and that the golf course be absorbed into the existing parkland.”

It was reported in 2024 that Allestree Park was to be rewilded.

The picture below shows workers preparing the new Allestree course in January 1930.

The course closed during WW2 and was used for training purposes by the Sherwood Forrester regiment.

The Allesstree Park Golf Course reopened following WW2 with a nine-hole course.

It was reported in May 1948 that charges of 2s/6d a round of nine-holes and 4s for two rounds were proposed by the Parks Committee.
