Wynyard Park Golf Club, Billingham, County Durham. (1920s)

A 9-hole course designed by Dr A Mackenzie in the early 1920s, it was situated on Lord Londonderry’s Wynyard Estate.

In a letter from Mackenzie to Dr Willans of Seaton Carew written in July 1924 he states that "I do not know of any really first class courses in either Northumberland or Durham; The little nine hole course I did for Lord Londonderry is the only one I have supervised myself but the work was carried out by untrained men and the land is not of the best type as it is heavy clay. Nevertheless, it probably compares favourably with many others in the district."

Thanks to Neil Crafter of the Alister Mackenzie Society UK for supplying the above information.
