Gorstyhill Golf Club, Wychwood Village, Crewe. (2003 - 2016)

Work on the course began in 2003.

The eighteen-hole undulating course was designed by Marc Westenborg, Hawtree Limited, and measured 6,456 yards. Greens laid to USGA specification, manicured bunkers and a variety of water hazards.

Professional was David Lilley.

The Gorstyhill Golf Club was listed in the 2012 Golfer's Handbook. It continued to be listed until it ceased publication in 2015.

There was a plan to develop the course with housing (approximately 900 new dwellings) but this led to much opposition from locals.

In September 2016 Cheshire East Council blocked the plans to develop the course.

Unfortunately the club remains closed with little likelihood of the course re-opening.

“Crossing the access road to the housing development with the car park behind you, a public footpath leads to former holes on land bounded on the south side by the road to Newcastle under Lyme. This is the eastern 'half' of the course.”

 

 

 

 

“The former clubhouse and holes on the western side of the course (ie in the direction of Nantwich) An access road to the adjacent housing development cuts the course in half - this side would have included the first hole.”
