Castleblayney Golf Club, County Monaghan. (1913 – 2008)

First appeared in 1913 with a nine-hole course in the Hope demesne. This course closed in 1949. It was also called the Castleblayney Golf and Tennis Club.

The club was re-established in 1985 with a course at Hope Castle were it remained until closure in the 2000s.

The current club is the Concra Wood Golf Club which opened in 2008.

From the Belfast News-Letter Wednesday 20 February 1918 – “Golf Green-keeper and Caretaker wanted -Steady experienced man wanted for Castleblaney Golf and Tennis Club. Suitable dwelling-house. Preference given to a discharged soldier. Apply, with copies discharges, stating terms etc. to John Gillespie, Hope Estate Office, Castleblayney.”

Newry Reporter Thursday 9 June 1927 – “Bessbrook Golf Club and Castleblaney Club met on the links at Warrenpoint on Saturday in a return fixture. Bessbrook travelled to “Blayney” on Easter Monday and “went down” to the locals on that occasion, but the decision was reversed on Saturday, Bessbrook winning by 7 matches to 4. Subsequently the captain of Castleblayney in a neat speech thanked the Bessbrook Club for the enjoyable match and hospitality, and joined with the Bessbrook Captain in thanking in thanking the Warrenpoint Council for granting the use of their links.”

The club continued until the time of WWII when it went into abeyance.

After a period of 40 years the club reappeared in the 1980s at Hope Castle.
