Rosses Golf Club, Arlands, County Donegal. (1926 - 1960s)
It was reported in March 1926 that the Rosses Golf Club had been formed.
A nine-hole course was laid out on the Atlantic coast at Arland. Club officials were; President - Mr Eugene Doherty, T.D; Captain - Very Rev Dr Duggan; Secretary – H Kiernan, Northern Bank, Dungloe.

Derry Journal Friday 23 April 1926 - "GOLF IN THE ROSSES - The Rosses Golf Course was formally opened last Saturday at Arlands, Burtonport. Visitors were welcomed by Mr Eugene Doherty, president of the Rosses club. Rev. Dr Duggan, captain, and Mr Henry Kiernan (Northern Bank), hon. secretary. Mrs Major Myles, Ballyshannon, opened the course by driving the first ball, and afterwards a competition was played with Mr P J Ward, Letterkenny, the winner."
The annual dance which was well attended, was held at the Parochial Hall, Dungloe, on Friday 24 January 1927.
In the late 1920s the secretary was J O'Donnell, The Cottage, Burtonport. The professional and greenkeeper was M Boner. At this time the club had a membership of. Record amateur score was 38. Visitors’ fees were 1/6 a day, 5/- a week, £1 a month. Sunday play was allowed with caddies.
The station at Burtonport was 1 mile away. Local advertised hotel was Sweeney's.
It was reported in June 1931 that the course at Burton port had been well patronised in the last few months. The club had added many new members and the course was in splendid condition.
In July 1931, for the second year in succession, Michael Boner, Lackenagh, Burtonport, had won the Rosses Golf Club Competition. This year there was a large number of competitors and spectators. Leading scores; Michael Boner, 71; John O’Donnell, N.T., Dochary, 74; Supt. Murphy, Dungloe, 75.
The Rosses club was accepted into the Golfing Union of Ireland in January 1932.
The following is from the 1933 Golfer's Handbook; Burtonport (Co. Donegal); Rosses Golf Club, Ardlands; Membership of 40; secretary, J O'Donnell; professional and green-keeper, T Boner; amateur record, 36; nine-holes.
As in previous years the annual dance was held in the Parochial Hall, Dungloe, in January 1934.
A meeting was held in Campbell’s Hotel on Monday 1 April 1935, T J Liston, captain, in the chair. The following officers were elected for the coming year; captain, P O’Donnell, Solicitor; secretary, James O’Donnell; treasurer, J McFarlane, National Bank. T J Liston and Garda Sheridan were elected on the committee in addition to the above officers. It was decided to hold a stroke competition on The Arland Golf Links on Sunday.
A silver spoon, presented by the Life Boat Institute was played on Sunday 17 May 1936. It was won by E O’Leary, of the National Bank.
The preliminary rounds of the Rosses Golf Cup were played on the Arlands course in June 1936, the following qualified; Rev. P Deeney, Rev. T Doherty, District Justice O’Hanrahan, D Sweeney, B Sweeney, E O’Leary, F Molloy and C McMonagle.
In August 1937 the final of the Rosses Golf Cup was played on the Arlands Links between Mr Duff, Northern Bank, Dublin, who beat Fr. McIntyre, C.C., Dungloe.

In June 1947 the club held their well attended annual dance in the Parochial Hall.

It was reported in the Derry Journal in September 1955 that Jim Sharkey, a member of Rosses Golf Club, had just completed a tour of Scotland. Mr Sharkey realised an ambition when he played a round on the Royal and Ancient golf course at St Andrews.
It was mentioned in a report in January 1963 that the Rosses Golf Club was defunct.

Although the club was listed in the Golfer's Handbook to the 1970s it was a repetitive entry from 1947, the club and course closed earlier. Exact date still to be found.
