Earl of Leitrim Private Course, Donegal. (1890s)

The report below makes a brief mention of Old Tom Morris visiting the area in the 1890s to arrange the layout of a course for the Earl of Leitrim on his private estate.

Old Tom was in the process of supervising the layout of the Rosapenna Golf Club course in 1893.

The article above doesn’t give the exact location of the course. It states that “A few years ago the veteran professional was employed by the late Earl of Leitrim to lay out a nine-hole course in the immediate neighbourhood of the Manor House.”

The family seat of the Earls of Leitrim was Lough Rynn, near Mohill, County Leitrim. The 4th (1847-1892) and 5th (1879-1952) Earls of Leitrim, mainly used Mulroy House, near Letterkenny, as their residence.
