Aghade Golf Club, County Carlow. (1900s)
Short lived club that appeared prior to WWI.
Irish Times Saturday 6 March 1909 - “Through the kindness of Mr J O Adair, the Honorary Secretary of the Arghade Golf Club, near Tullow, I had an opportunity of playing over the course. Carlow is first and foremost a hunting county, but it means to have agreeable interludes of golf, judging by the pleasant course at Arghade. Carlow and Borris also possess links that promise well.”
Lady’s Pictorial Saturday 13 March 1909 – “Mr J O Adair is hon. sec. of the Aghade Golf Club, near Tullow, and things there are pleasantly flourishing. Carlow is a famous hunting county, and riders intend, by all evidence, to enjoy pleasant interludes of golf. The links there, and those at Borris, show a good upward tendency, and promise well in the turning out of clever players. Irish golfers are nearly all discarding the old method of playing with nails in the boots.”
Kilkenny Moderator Saturday 4 December 1909 – “While in Carlow I had a game on the Aghade course, which with money, could be made quite good, and, as it is, affords a game out of which plenty of amusement can be got. Mr J O Adair is the honorary secretary, and he deserves great credit keeping the club going under adverse conditions.”
