The following is from the Golfing Annual 1888/89; Instituted 1883; Entrance Fee nil; Subscriptions One Shilling; Membership of 20; Captain - Colonel Dingwall Fordyce; Vice-Captain - James D Sharp, Banker; Committee - J R Scott, W Gordon, A G West and W Watt; Secretary - Forbes C Grant, Accountant, Union Bank, Rosehearty. The lowest score in a club competition is 39, made by W Gordon. The club was formed in 1883 by Col. Fordyce of Bucklay, the proprietor's uncle, but it is nevertheless true that golf was played in the time of the first Lord Pitsligo. "The castle of Pitsligo overlooks the course, which must have been laid out by Lord Pitsligo himself. Some of the holes used in olden times are still to be seen in certain parts of the green. They are made of stone, and are great curiosities in their way. The course is composed of a stretch of links 1,854 yards long and about 600 yards broad. It consists of nine-holes, and is partly composed of bent. There are some exceedingly nice hazards."

Note; Lord Pitsligo and Pitsligo Castle were spelt "Pitaligo" in the Golfing Annual.

William Gordon, with a score of 40, won the yearly medal played on Saturday 21st April 1888.

In January 1890 the annual Yule competition was held, the weather was excellent and the greens were in splendid condition. The winner was Mr William Gordon with a score of 90, runner-up was Mr William Watt with 96.

The club goes into abeyance in the early 1890s.

The following is an extract from a report from the Aberdeen Press and Journal in December 1971.

"First steps have been taken to put a Buchan town on par with other burghs in the area. For it was announced that it has definitely been decided to recreate a nine-hole course on the Links at Rosehearty and a golf club has been formed.

There was a course at the town many years ago but it disappeared, and it is now considered that a revival of the course would be a boon to the burgh."

The new club is on the site of the old course.

The stunning coastline of Rosehearty was featured in the Burt Lancaster film “Local Hero.”
