Scarinish and Heanish Golf Club, Isle of Tiree. (1886 - 1960s)
It is said that Scarinish Golf Course was laid out by officers from HMS Ajax, which was part of a fleet of three ships sent to Tiree in 1886 to quell the agitation by local crofters who had occupied land belonging to the Duke of Argyll.
Initially a nine-hole course it was eventually extended to eighteen-holes.
Prior to WW2 there were three golf courses on Tiree; Kirkapol and Vaul; Scarinish and Heanish; Cornaig. All three courses closed at the onset of WW2.
