Hermitage Golf Club, Braid Hills Drive. (2004 – 2017)

In about 2004 a club was formed called The Hermitage, this club closed in 2017. This course was laid out to the north of Braid Hills Drive.

The Hermitage Golf Club initially laid out a nine-hole course which was quickly extended to twelve-holes. The Hermitage course was built with the aid of a £200,000 lottery award and was opened by Sports Minister Patricia Ferguson. It was stated that the course was built for families and children and was the first of its type in the UK. Construction began in September 2003 and cost £600,000 by the time it was complete. It was a pay and play course with free club hire and no dress code. The holes ranged in distance from 60 to 250 yards on the twelve-hole course.

Unfortunately the initiative on family golf didn’t succeed and in about 2011 the course was taken over by Autism Ventures Scotland. It offered adults and children with autism various opportunities including golf. There was also a clubhouse/café, therapy room and horticulture project.

Alan McPherson is playing all of Scotland’s golf course to raise funds for Cancer Research. In October 2011 Alan played the Hermitage course and his blog entry can be seen on the link below.
