Lillafüred Golf Course, Hungary. (1930-1939)
During the inter-war period there was an 18-hole course at Lillafüred in the county of Borsod. Lillafüred is located approximately 200 kilometres east of Budapest and about 10 kilometres from Hungary’s second-largest city, Miskolc. The main focal point of the golf course at Lillafüred was the Palace Hotel, which was built between 1927 and 1930. It still exists today under the name Palota Castle Hotel.
According to the book 100 years of Hungarian Golf published by the Hungarian Golf Federation in 2011 it was the Ministry for Agriculture which decided to have a new golf course built in Hollóstetői together with the construction of the Palace Hotel in Lillafüred. They asked István Rakovszky, Dr. Béla Szlávy and Deszsó Lauber to survey the site, and the latter to do the design of the golf course.
